"From 1200's to cassette" Cesar The Beat Echevarria's 1987 Mix for WGCI - AM

Played: 53 | Download | Duration: 00:46:39

Back in the early 1980's, I was fortunate enough to be the manager of Chicago's Magic Mixer's, a mobile DJ service which featured myself as MC/event host and Tony Boom Boom Badea as the DJ/hotmixer. In the mid 1980's, Tony was a finalist in the Great Battle of the DJ's sponsored by the great WBMX as they were conducting a search for a new member of the now Legendary Hot Mix 5. In the DJ Battle Finals held at the Rainbo Roller Rink/Disco, Tony was a finalist, along with a relative newcomer to the mix scene, Cesar Echevarria. During this battle, Tony was a crowd favorite to the point that the audience had to be pacified with an explanation as to why Tony was not judged as the ultimate winner of the battle. Cesar also did really well, although he too was not named the winner of the battle. It was at the battle that I introduced myself to Cesar as Tony's manager and I asked him if he had a manager. Fortunately for me, Cesar didn't have a manager and wasn't part of a DJ team, and he agreed to become a part of Chicago's Magic Mixers. Through this new partnership, Cesar was able to become a member of the WCYC Jackmaster 5 DJ Team, and he was invited by Tony to submit a mix for airplay on Chicago's WCGI 1390 AM as a guest of the Hot Mix 5, whom Tony had become associated with. This is the first mix that Cesar The Beat Echevarria submitted to Tony for airplay on WCGI AM. Ironically, until Cesar met Tony and I, he was simply Cesar Echevarria. After listening to him play live, and after playing his tapes on WCYC in which Cesar added his own original beats to the mixes, I had no choice but to nickname him as Cesar "The Beat" Echevarria. Cesar is now a Chicago Police Officer who also works for Mikey O Productions, and yes, he continues to create beats in his personal mixlab. This mix went straight from turntable to cassette, and only now, 25 years after it's creation is available as a podcast/upload...wow. Your feedback is welcome. Click, listen, enjoy and leave a comment if you will, Pure mixing talent...                Harv Roman

Great mix. I had an 80's mix of his but got lost in my travels. Is there a way I can get a copy of this mix on cd? Great show by the way. Peace be with you. -Ramon Ruiz-
