A Tribute to Women Bomba Dancers w/Traci Garcia, Myrna Rodriguez and Sijisfredo Aviles of SRBCC as heard on WCEV 1450 AM with Harv Roman - 3/1/09
Played: 1996 | Download | Duration: 00:37:22
As part of this year's Tribute to Women Bomba Dancers, former Club Kid Traci Garcia, now a member of the Board of the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center joined Harv Roman and SRBCC colleagues Myrna Rodriguez and Sijisfredo Aviles for an hour of words and music in celebration and anticipation of the upcoming Abolition of Slavery Concert, scheduled to be held on March 20th, 2009 at Chicago's Logan Square Auditorium - 2539 North Kedzie Avenue #15. The event will feature Nandi', the first all woman bomba ensemble in Puerto Rico. Advance tickets are on sale for $20, while the door price is $25. Online purchases can be made through srbcc.org.
During this interview, Traci, Myrna and Sijisfredo talk about the history of the Bomba y Plena culture, the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, the changes that are taking place in Puerto Rico and issues relating to Chicago's Puerto Rican community. Music from Grupo Yuba' is featured and listeners Maria, Estella and Jimmy were treated to free passes to the event, courtesy of the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center.
My thanks to Traci, Myrna, Sijisfredo and also to Persephone and Imani, who tried to school Harv on the finer points of Bomba y Plena music and dance in the show's first segment, heard exclusively on the WCEV broadcast.

Can I comment on my own show? LOL! Jasmine was right... I do sound different! I had a great time in the studio with you Harv! Thanks again for being so generous and supportive and giving us such a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about our Concert.
Let's do it again!

You sounded fine and you did a great job - you're such an adult now...now you need to get Jasmine to follow your lead and visit the studios for a high schooler's perspective...
Thanks to you and the SRBCC Crew!
