Originally aired on January 4th, 2002, this edition of Wake Up Dancing hosted by Harv Roman not only pays tribute to some of the best Freestyle songs to come out in 2001, but also served as the launching point for discussion on creating a Freestyle Music Awards Program. Harv reads the various Billboard magazine charts and wonders aloud about the lack of representation from the Freestyle community. This led to lots of Freestyle message board and online support for a variety of Freestyle based award nominations, two entire radio programs devoted to the "award winners", and ultimately the formation of the 1st Annual Freestyle Music Awards held in Miami, Florida in 2008 under the production of La-Entertainment, Inc.

This is only a sample of the programs devoted to the outstanding contributions of our favorite Freestyle artists. I will soon post more radio shows (as I find them), and I will also some of the lists of nominations that were submitted by Freestyle fans back in 2002.  It may not be a nice, shiny trophy, but the recognition of the fans and the original Wake Up Dancing radio program were enough to keep things warm until La-Entertainment revived the idea with a live awards show.
