"Wake Up Dancing" Freestyle Salsafied! Original airdate: September 13th, 2007

"Wake Up Dancing" original airdate: September 13th, 2007

Can you guess what Marc Anthony, India, Luis Damon, Lisette Melendez, George Lamond and Brenda K. Starr have in common? Not only do they appear on this week's edition of "Wake Up Dancing", but they along with the likes of Safire, Chrissy Ieece, Angel "The Original Cover Girl" and more) made major noise in the Freestyle movement before moving on to have incredible impacts on the Salsa/Latin community. Enjoy this all new show hosted by Harv Roman and featuring songs that you may not have heard in years. Post your comments, critiques and yes, you can even tease me about my malfunctioning broadcast equipment-kinda reminiscent of the days at the Classic WCYC...click on the player, download it, give it a listen and tell me what you think-here, or on www.myspace.com/harvroman .

I also invite you to read my blog on an issue I consider to believe is of importance to artists featured on this webcast, such as Lisette Melendez. Post your feedback and comments here, or on myspace.com/harvroman.

Forever Freestyle,

Harv Roman

Aw man, first of all, it'd be great if leaving a comment opened a NEW window so I could continue listening to the show, but it might not be possible ...

Anyhoo, I love what I'm hearing Harv, and it pains me to be such a proud Mexican yet so out of touch w/ my heritage. I'm running out and getting a Salsa CD as soon as the stores open! Hah! (0:

Surely you have other half-white/half-Latino blends out there who feel the same way as I'm feeling right now - connected, yet somehow removed. Just for starters, I'd love to strengthen my Spanish conversational skills. Admittedly, they're pretty elementary right now. I know that listening to this music is a great way to start. A lot of Mexican-Americans I've met over the years have told me that they learned English through TV and music. If you know anyone who works w/ "students" on a one-on-one basis, I'd be grateful to you for passing the info along. I want to sing along to what I'm hearing and KNOW what the singer is feeling!!!

Since re-discovering you and digging up all my "back-in-the-day" freestyle mix tapes, it's like the flood gates have opened. The Latino culture is rich and fantastic and flavorful, yet somehow I've often felt like I'm on the outside looking in. Thank you Harv for opening the door with Wake Up Dancing!

    Your New Old Friend,
    Sandi
